Changing the lives of homeless children…investing in the future.

Our vision is a community where the safety and well-being of children are not compromised by their parent’s circumstances or instability and do not have to live with repeated traumas, disrupted attachments, or neglect.

Step Up Ventura’s vision is a community where all children have a chance to form healthy relationships and have access to early childhood education that supports realizing their potential.

We will work toward this goal by providing all day therapeutic daycare and preschool to homeless children age 0-5.

Our Partnership with Magic Carousel!
Announcement Partnership announcement letter copy

Step Up Ventura is delighted to announce its partnership with Magic Carousel Preschool and Academy. Our mission, to promote family stability and school success by providing accessible therapeutic childcare and preschool to homeless children ages zero to five, goes perfectly with Magic Carousel’s mission, to set a strong foundation in each child’s life.

That’s right: Step Up Ventura has found a home! With the enthusiastic support of Magic Carousel’s owner, Marcella White, Step Up Ventura will be offering all-day, year-round services at Magic Carousel’s 1767 E. Main Street campus in Ventura.

With Magic Carousel stepping up in this way, our operating costs have lowered considerably but we still need to raise $ 50,000 to open by April 3, our projected start date.  Can you make a donation?  If so, please go to www.stepupventura.org/donate.

Homeless children and their families are terribly vulnerable, but early childhood intervention can change the course of children’s lives. With Magic Carousel’s strong childcare and teaching staff, and Step Up Ventura’s trauma-informed and early childhood education specialists working side by side, we can truly make a difference.

Outreach Program Launched!

We launched our Outreach Program October 31. We now have two Outreach teams providing early intervention services to young homeless children and their parents.

Our two-person teams have specialists in mental health and early childhood education. They meet with homeless parents and their children, covering practical information and doing hands on activities that address the specific needs of their children.   We give books and other educational aids promoting learning and healthy brain development to the parents so that throughout the week they can practice things they learn in the Outreach meetings..  The Outreach meetings also give parents guidance on connecting with their children in positive ways, healing from trauma and developing social- emotional skills in very young children.
